A guide to getting best results from aesthetic procedures
Finding a good plastic surgeon is critical to the success of any aesthetic procedure. Here are Seven tips to help you find the best doctor to ensure best results:
1. Check the doctors’ qualifications
Not all “Plastic Surgeons” are qualified to perform procedures. This, however, may not deter them from taking up the job. Make sure that the doctor you choose is, in fact, registered with the APRSSA(Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa).
2. Your procedure vs. doctor’s area of specialisation
Many plastic surgeons specialise in certain aesthetic procedures so that they can hone their skills in very specific areas. This is because each area of cosmetic surgery requires different skills. For example, operating on a nose with bone, cartilage, and breathing passages is quite different from operating on a breast, which is primarily comprised of soft, glandular tissue.
3. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Make sure that you and your surgeon are on the same page when it comes to your expectations and the opinion of what is beautiful. Ask to see pictures of past surgeries on patients with a similar body type and desired result.
4. Build a relationship with your surgeon
Your surgeon should make you feel comfortable and confident that you will get the results you want. If you feel uncomfortable or feel that you aren’t in the best possible hands then do not settle.
5. Reputation is everything
Do thorough research, find out as much as possible and ask friends for recommendations. This will help you get a feel for the doctors who have happy patients – there’s nothing better than a personal recommendation with visible results.
6. State-of-the-Art facilities
Good surgeons only work with registered anaesthetists, in professional facilities and in reputable hospitals with systems in place to handle every eventuality and any possible complications. Your well-being is ultimately on the line so there can be no compromise…
7. Realistic expectations
If a surgeon guarantees results, doesn’t explain the possible risks, doesn’t have pictures to prove their skills, offers discounted fees or seems flippant about the procedure that you want, then warning bells should ring. A professional surgeon never loses respect for the risks associated with any procedure and a patient’s health and well-being.
